CloudOn offers Microsoft Office functionality for iPad, your parents will love it

If you got your parents an iPad for Christmas, you were probably thanked with this: “Can it run Office?” CloudOn may be the answer, the cloud-based service letting you log in to create and edit Office documents on the aforesaid slate. Similar to a lot of remote services, CloudOn runs Office on its own end and allows you to pull in documents from Dropbox for editing and post them back when you’re done. Strangely, CloudOn launched on the App Store as a freebie but was pulled due to heavy demand. The company has asked users to sign up to be notified when the app goes back in the App Store. In other news, Las Vegas oddsmakers are now taking bets as to which will occur first; the release of an iOS-native version of Microsoft Office or the Robot Apocalypse.

Disney-branded AppClix camera for iPad turns you into the world’s happiest shooter

If you thought using the iPad’s camera — or any other tablet, for that matter — was an awkward way to do mobile photography… well, you were right. But, this mind-boggling AppClix ($60) is about to take things to a new level. The bizarre external shooter gives you access to all of its 7.1 megapixels via Apple’s proprietary connector, and you also get an SD card slot, 4X zoom for distant shots and a 1.5-inch LCD display for “previews.” As if the souped-up specs weren’t enough, the portable camera comes in a variety of flavors, so if Mickey or Minnie Mouse aren’t your characters of preference, you’ll be glad to know that you can also choose between Phineas and Ferb, Princes and Tinkerbell. Oh, and did we mention the Disney Pix editing app? If you’re silly enough to buy this thing, we’re told it’s a must-download.

Facebook app update brings Timeline to the iPhone, iPad version coming soon

Facebook’s Timeline feature has only just begun to roll out across the globe, and now an iOS version has sidled up next to its Android counterpart — making it even easier for us to recheck our social network back stories. The new app is currently only available for the iPhone, but Facebook states that an iPad-friendly update will arrive soon. You will need to have already activated the timeline function on the web-based original, but downloading the latest version will also grant access to your friend lists and subscriptions. Some requisite performance improvements are also promised too. Cringe at some portable post-millennial fashion mistakes by grabbing the download at the source.

[Thanks Christoph]
